Software map of North America (here are the top software hubs)

Megan Meade

There are 40,500 new tech startups launched every year in the US.

As the leading technology industry sector, the software sector is constantly growing and evolving.

We’ve researched the most popular software companies headquartered in each US state to create a map of what software actually looks like in the US today.

During our research, we found some states were software hubs containing multiple large software companies.

The states with the most big-name enterprise software headquarters on our software map were:

New York

New York has 4 large enterprise software companies headquarters including IBM, Henry Schein, Infor, and VAI.

California

California, unsurprisingly, has 4 large enterprise software companies headquarters including Salesforce, Workday, Oracle + NetSuite, Zoho, and many others.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts has three big-name software companies including HubSpot, Kronos, and athenahealth.

Potential for growth

We found four states with the potential to become software hubs, these were:

  • Florida
  • Ohio
  • Illinois
  • Georgia

Each state had two big-name enterprise software companies headquartered in their location which could suggest that there is potential to grow in these areas for smaller companies as there are already workforces in the area with the technology skills they require to grow.
